Nut Series
The Nut series came from a trip to Egypt and witnessing the awesome artistic achievements of the ancient Egyptians. Goddess of the sky, Nut, is depicted as a starry blue body that is elongated and pushing away from the earth. The legend goes, that Nut swallows Ra, the sun God, every evening and births him anew every morning. During the day Ra fight demons and evils, witnessed here on Earth as a blazing ball of light. I wanted to take this story and create a new myth, one where Ra helps with my personal demons. In this series I become Nut, swallowing Ra. Instead of Ra resting, Ra guides me on fighting my personal demons, striving to reach my best self. The images start with Ra approaching me/Nut, then swallowed. These first images are followed by my personal demons I struggle with, self doubt, anger, stubbornness, and judgement. To overcome these and find myself imbued with mindfulness, compassion, and self love. Finally I emerge a whole person who has worked through her flaws and found enlightenment. All images were done on papyrus purchased in Egypt and egg tempera mixed from powdered pigments.
